Royal Baths

Oh man, now wouldn't you just believe it -- WF have been swamped the last couple of weeks. Caught some great shows (Oh Sees.. stellar), but also had more "real world shit" to deal with than you can shake a stick at. To our credit, however, we haven't been jamming on too much new shit lately. Well luckily, and right on time, here comes the Royal Baths release we've all been waiting for. Hopefully this heavy dose of garage psych will get us back to normal again. And it's on Woodsist -- like they've ever steered you wrong.

The Hex Dispensers

Austin's The Hex Dispensers can pack one hell of a punch, even when they're slowing their roll and taking on a ballad such as One Less Ghost, the title cut off their new 7'' for Trouble in Mind Records. As if your ears needed any more reason to prick up at the mention of Trouble in Mind, here comes another great release that further extends their excellent 7'' track record. Grab your best girl for the boot-stomping prom night destroyer that is One Less Ghost, but don't get caught in the pit when the b/w hits.

Brazilan Money

Sometimes our friends to the North wrap up a sweet little present and send it down our way. How does it get to us, you ask? Well we here at WF sure don't know. Mountie on horseback? Their most trusted hockey player is tasked with skating it down? Either way, this ass-kicking little garage rock 7'' by Edmonton's Brazilian Money found its way to our doorstep and we couldn't be more thrilled. Something about those long cold winters must equip bands to make the kind of raw, shambolic anthems they're known for. This 7'' is not to be missed - pick it up!

Nobunny

Hey, remember that day? The one you've been waiting ever so impatiently for? The day you could stop obsessively checking the countdown and start listening to anything other than Love Visions? Well wake up bitch: it's today.

Nobunny. First Blood. I don't think we here at WF need to say much more. Enjoy!

G. Green

G. Green are a Sacramento band with a ton of buzz right now. Reviews of their live shows have been overwhelmingly positive, often making note of their unusual but assured vocals and energetic drumming. The songs themselves are a tight blend of garage, surf, and spazzy punk, calling to mind a somewhat higher-fi Tyvek. They've got some big shows coming up soon, opening for Wavves, Ganglians, and Procedure Club. Try to check them out live, and definitely pick this 7'' released on Malt Duck Records.

Flight

Flight is a one-man Mississippi outfit with all the right credentials: 7''s on Sweet Rot and Hozak, a 10'' on Kill Shaman, and now this, a cassette-only release on Bathetic titled Mi$$i$$ippi Lean. So let's get right to it: this cassette is weird. Flight songs have always been grimey, distorted, and lo-fi, but they've never been as fucked-with as on this release. It basically sounds like they took the old songs and slowed them down to 33 1/3, but the effect really works. Creeping, smoked-out, other-worldly jams with some truly insane vocals. Definitely check this out:

Holy Cobras

As far as emphatic interjections go, some of our favorites over here at WF include: egads, yuck, gah, and whups! Well now we can add Holy Cobras to that very esteemed and important list. These Ottawa natives make their own special brand of doomy futuristic weirdo rock, placing them comfortably in the sonic brotherhood of bands like Nice Face and A Place To Bury Strangers. This self-titled 7'' is completely solid, and the spring reverb freakout at the end of 'Feed Yr Head' is an especially nice touch.

Woven Bones

At this point Woven Bones could put out a cassette of the band eating breakfast and we'd probably fork over the $6 for it. Their new 7'', titled I've Gotta Get, shows the band trying out some new approaches after the success of their recent Hozak full length. The A side title track finds them at their noodliest, relying heavier on a melody more closely-picked, and catchier, than anything you've heard them do before. The B is just as satisfying, bringing more of that scuzzy southern bootgaze (?... just go with it) that we loved on In and Out and Back Again. And all of this on Hardly Art? Sheeeeit.

Night Beats

Seattle by way of Texas group Night Beats are still new to the game, having only released one 7'' on Trouble In Mind Records (a label putting out some truly outstanding singles lately), but they're already getting a lot of attention. Locked-in drums, jangly psych guitars with generous echo, and a singer with some serious pipes. They're currently touring extensively on the West Coast to support the 7'', and we Least-Coasters here at WF couldn't be more jealous.

The Intelligence

Hot dang! This one's fresh out of the oven and looks so goddamn good we're not even going to wait for it to cool before we take it all the way to chow-down town (I think I'm hungry). Just the other day we were wondering what was up with The Intelligence, and low and behold a brand spanking new LP just came out on In The Red Records. On the first couple listens it seems Lars took some of that sweet, sweet Nirvana-label money and sunk it into making The Intelligence a real, legit band. This is their first outing w/ the full lineup, and is sure to be bumping out of soon-to-be-stolen car stereos nationwide in 5..4..3..2..

Eddy Current Suppression Ring

Hands down the best discovery in recent memory. We here at WF were woefully unaware of this completely awesome Australian outfit until we received a hot tip from Dead Ed, our local dealer/vinyl peddler: "Best fucking band out now, dudes! Like some ADHD too much TV bastard son of Television and The Clean. Licks for days and a rhythm section that just won't quit. This is the kind of shit that could make Tina Turner want to go back into the Thunderdome!" We think Ed's been sniffing a bit too much glue lately, but when he's right, he's right.
